How Many Cups of Coffee Can You Drink a Day?

Research from across the pond suggests that we could drink as many as 3 cups of coffee a day and see health benefits. ‘What’s that we hear you cry? ‘More coffee’? What’s not to love about this latest piece of research?

These were the findings of research presented at the European Society of Cardiology Congress in France recently.

The results suggest that regular coffee consumption is safe, as even higher daily intake was not associated with adverse cardiovascular outcomes. It has yet to be peer-reviewed but the findings are encouraging.

Benefits of Coffee Drinking

It’s long been believed and celebrated that low to moderate consumption can increase energy, alertness, and concentration. Good news for those of you that run a busy workplace where productivity is key.

As well as the benefits of concentration and a general overall energy boost, low-moderate coffee consumption has also been thought to reduce the risk of stroke, heart disease, heart failure, Type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers, as well as death from those diseases and other causes. Now it seems that even higher consumption could contribute to these benefits too.

That Third Cup Won’t Hurt

The good news is, that even that third cup could have positive benefits. Of course, you should endeavour to drink it without any cream or sugar - we are talking about just coffee here. Too much cream and sugar will have adverse effects. Stick to your coffee black or with a little milk where possible.

Good News for Coffee Drinkers

This is excellent news for those of you that have been thinking they ought to stick to two cups a day. That third cup may be contributing to your good health, and not as you may believe, having the opposite effect. Just make sure it’s not the one that keeps you awake at night. If you’re the type to get the jitters after two cups, the third may not be wise.

Increasing Productivity for Office Workers

For those that are running a business and want to increase productivity, you could do a lot worse than introducing great coffee to your office. Forget the instant coffee, or having to use a cafetiere, and invest in a bean-to-cup machine which will not only make employees feel more valued it will also make them more productive. Surely that’s a win, win.
